From the frigid arctic to the desert
southwest, the Malarkey Alaskan SBS
“rubber” modified shingle provides homes
and buildings with the very best protection
available from any asphalt shingle. The
Alaskan, a tough and durable shingle, has
proven itself year after year throughout the
harshest environments of North America.
Flexible and workable, the Alaskan can be
applied in temperatures down to 0°F.
Underwriters Laboratories tests prove that
after two hours of sustained 110 mph
winds, the Alaskan suffered no damage.
Malarkey confidently backs these tests with
a 100 mph wind warranty.
The Alaskan also offers the protection of
Class 4 Impact Resistance (UL 2218).
A Class 4 rating test utilizes two inch steel
balls to simulate the wrath of nature’s hail
storms, providing the best classification
under UL 2218. The Alaskan meets or
exceeds this standard, offering the
strongest possible protection for your home.
Malarkey manufacturing standards are so
stringent that we allow only half the granule
loss permitted by industry standards (ASTM
D 4977 Test Method). Simply stated, when
the granules stay on longer your roof lasts
longer. The unique qualities of The Alaskan
shingle have become the standard by which
other shingles are measured.
The Alaskan is created by using superior
roofing asphalt, which Malarkey then
modifies with Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene
(SBS) polymers. This modification process
enhances the asphalt, providing superior
strength and flexibility. We then combine
the modified asphalt with our exclusive
Polyglass® mat. Polyglass mat
incorporates both glass and polyester
fibers to achieve a strong, tear-resistant
sheet.
